The following reserved device names cannot be used as the name of a file:
CON, PRN, AUX, CLOCK$, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, and LPT9.
they have been reserved for system purposes, and they are handled by they system. so to avoid duplicates being created by any user and mucking it up for the OS, they have been reserved!!!

It is possible to disable XP splash screen, which will slightly speed up the overall boot process. 1). Start any application, say Word. Open some large documents.
2). Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to open Windows Task Manager and click Processes tab and sort the list in descending order on Mem Usage. You will notice that WINWORD.EXE will be somewhere at the top, using multiple MBs of memory.
